The mud camps are not designed to withstand the rain, and conditions are worsening by the day

The rainy season has arrived in northwestern Syria, and with it comes a new wave of suffering for the displaced.

In the cold weather, they become more difficult to live in. The rains have made the situation even worse – there is no infrastructure in place, and the tents are built on mud.

The rains have caused the ground to become muddy, making it difficult for people to leave their homes. The lack of infrastructure means that many of them have no way to get food or clean water.

The mud camps are not designed to withstand the rain, and conditions are worsening by the day. The lack of infrastructure means that refugees cannot even get out of their tents without risking injury or death.

The ongoing tragedy is exacerbated by the fact that there is no political solution to the Syrian crisis. As long as Assad remains in power, he will continue to commit crimes against humanity and his own people—and there will be no end to this suffering until he is removed from office.

This is a tragic reality for those who have been displaced by the conflict—but it is also a reality that can be changed. There is no solution except for them to return to their homes. Ending the suffering of Syrians will require both political solutions in accordance with Resolution 2254 and holding the Assad regime accountable for its crimes.
